By you registering any classes in our school, you agree to abide by the school policies, rules and regulations.
On-line Registration Opening Period
On-line registration for school year 2008-09 will be open to existing students/families from June 15 to July 10, 2008. Online registration is not available to new families. New students should contact Vice Principal of Registration Xiaomei Li (may.x.wang@gmail.com) to be evaluated and assigned to appropriate grade and class which subjects to the availability. For families that register after the designated registration period, a $30 late registration fee will be charged and the students’ final acceptance will be subject to the availability of the grade/class.
School Opening Date
The first day of school for school year 2007-08 is on Sunday, September 7, 2008.
Classes run from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm on Sundays.

Registration Guideline
Copy of birth certificates are required for all Kindergarten students and all new students. Students will be assigned to grade k~9 classes based on their age and current Chinese language aptitude.
Kindergarten: For kids born before Dec. 31, 2003. Copy of birth certificate is required. All kids born after Dec 31, 2003 will not be accepted. They will be trained on Mandarin pronunciation, Chinese Pinyin, Mandarin language art, and verbal vocabulary enlargement etc.
CSL: Suitable for 6+ year old students who have no Chinese language background. They will start with learning Chinese Pinyin and will be trained on Mandarin language art, vocabulary and writing Chinese words.
1st Grade: Suitable for 6 year old students who have mastered reading and writing Chinese Pinyin.
2nd ~ 3rd Grade: Suitable for 7+ year old students.
4th ~ 5th Grade: Suitable for 8+ year old students.
6th ~ 7th Grade: Suitable for 9+ year old students.
8th ~ 9th Grade: Suitable for 10+ year old students
Registration for Existing Students
Existing students should be enrolled into the next grade (move-up) with the same class assignment. For example, A Grade 4 Class 2 student can only move up to Grade 5 Class 2. Please do not register grade and class other than the move-up path as explained above. Fail to do so will not only increase extra work to our administrators but also may impose a penalty charge to your account. The School has the authority to reverse and re-arrange any registration that does not follow the policy.
If you want your child skip grade, proper approval from the Dean will be required. Please contact the Dean who will evaluate your child and make appropriate recommendation.
After register language classes, students are required to select a culture class without extra cost. Students are not allowed to register culture classes only except students returning after graduation.
Registration for New Students
New students should contact Vice Principal of Registration Xiaomei Li (may.x.wang@gmail.com) to be evaluated and assigned to appropriate class based on the students’ Chinese proficiency levels, subject to the availability of the grade/class.
Culture/Activity Classes
Except for Kindergarten students, all other grades’ students are required to select a culture/activity class via on-line registration. There are seat limits in each class. It is on a “first-come-first-serve” basis.
Tuition Policy
The tuition for the school year 2008-2009 for kindergarten to 9th grade is $576 for the 1st student of a family, and $536 for each additional student ($1,112 for a 2-student family and $1,648 for a 3-student family). In another word, a family will receive $40 reduction (management fee) on tuition for each additional child.
Due to special order on textbooks, online material and other special requirement, the tuition for CSL1 class is $626. The tuition for CSL2 is $726.
For students graduate from Huaxia or beyond the classes offered in current school year are allow to participate culture classes only without language class requirement. The tuition fee is $?????.
No partial refund will be issued if you should decide for your child not to participate any culture classes.
Tuition payment needs to be in the format of a check payment. You shall print out the payment sheet from the online registration system, and have the check attached to it. Make sure to mark the students’ names, student ID numbers (or family ID numbers if available) on the check and social security numbers (SSN) on the registration printout sheet.
Please make the tuition check payable to: New York Huaxia Chinese School and mail it to: New York Huaxia Chinese School, P.O. Box 1236, Scarsdale, NY 10583. The tuition payment needs to be post marked by August 20, 2008. The registration will considered incomplete if no payment is received. The School has the right to deny a student’s acceptance if the payment has not been made in full and on time.
Refund Policy
1. Since the tuition is paid for the whole school year, if a student decides to withdraw for the spring semester, he or she needs to inform the School Administration team before spring semester starts.
2. For each semester,
A. Withdraw before the 1st week’s class starts: 100% refund
B. Withdraw before the 2nd week’s class starts: 80% refund
C. Withdraw before the 4th week’s class starts: 50% refund
D. Withdraw after the 4th week’s class starts: no refund
3. No partial credit will be granted for students registering a class in the middle of a semester. Instead a $30 late registration fee will be added to the full tuition.
4. If a check is returned for any reason (e.g., insufficient funds, stop payment, or account closed), the School will charge a $35 processing fee in addition to any penalty amount charged by the bank. If a student with a bounced check decides to withdraw from the school, the $35 returned check fee should still apply.
5. No student should be allowed to sit in the class without COMPLETE tuition payment, except for new students who get written permission from the School Administration team to audit the class.
Grade/Class Transfer
During the first 3 weeks of the new school year, if an existing student wants to transfer to a different grade, he or she needs to
The final transfer will also be subject to the availability of the grade/class that he or she wants to transfer to. Once the transfer is approved, the School Administration team will issue a Certificate of Transfer and re-assign the students to the grades/classes approved.
During the first 3 weeks of the new school year, if a student wants to change his or her current culture class selection, he or she can make a request to the School Administration team. However, the final transfer is subject to the availability and specific restrictions of the class that the student is interested in transferring to.
Once the 4th week’s class starts, no more transfers will be allowed. In addition, there will be NO re-assignment of culture/activity classes at the beginning of the Spring semester.
If a student cannot find any culture/activity class that he or she is interested in, he or she may choose not to attend any culture/activity class. If a student is found to attend a culture/activity class without the School Administration’s approval, his or her parents will be contacted. If the situation is not rectified, the student will not be allowed to attend any culture/activity class for the remaining of the school year. The school reserves the right to adjust and make final call on student class assignments in order to balance the enrollments of classes in term of grade and activity area.
Teacher Assignment
The School Administration team will assign each grade’s teachers to different classes based on random draws during each year’s kickoff meeting. The teacher assignment will be available on the School’s website 2 weeks before the start of a new school year.
Classroom Assignment
The classroom (building/floor/room#) assignment can be found on the School’s website 2 weeks before the start of a new school year.
SSN Collection
Due to Westchester Community College (WCC) requirement, the School will need to collect Social Security Number (SSN) for every student. The SSN will not be collected in the online registration system per security reasons. The school will collect it when you pay. If the SSN is not provided with the check payment by August 20, 2008, a student’s enrollment process may be delayed or even denied.
Photo Usage
The school reserves the right to pictures taken for students/families participating in the Huaxia School’s academic or social activities (e.g. speech contests, or parties hosted by
Parent-Teacher Association), and may post them on the School’s website internal sections, which is only accessible by the registered members of the School.
