Real World Jobs

2011 Academic Year
Coordinator: Gutuan Zheng
Time: 9:30-10:30am (Grade 7+)

Course Objectives

What an attorney does in her office? Who is a Wall Street analyst? Why this person is called a professor and another one called a government officer?

This course consists of seminars and speeches by outstanding individuals, many of them are HXNY parents and some will be special guests. The course is designed to expose teenage students to the day to day work of adult professionals in many different industries. The class is not a career searching or training course, rather it will focus on what professionals do and think about in their jobs.

It helps the teenagers to understand the jobs and positions in the real world by top career achievers. We expect our students to start thinking of their future positions after face to face discussion with dedicated professionals. After about 30 job introductions, we like to see the student have a more realistic word in their mind. We will be glad if our students to initiate discussion with their parents on what they do over the dinner.

In each seminar the presenters will be requested to demonstrate their passion to their jobs. They will show students how their jobs contribute to their company, their industry, and society. They will show their daily routine as well as heyday. They will reveal the trade-secrets as well as funs only a few in their position had ever enjoyed.

Multimedia (tube, cartoon…) and web-based information will be provided to encourage student to further explore the fund on their own.

Bottom line, it is a lot of fun.
